Bring in the new year with this special 4 week course that explores the 5 Elements based on Series 1 to 5 of Triyoga®-Flows L2. Held Wednesdays at 8am.
Each class includes the 4 seasons and the 5 elements (Earth, Water, Fire, Air and Space) with the focus on one so called “King”-element per class. We will explore the characteristics of the “king-element” within asana, prana vidya (breathing & concentration techniques/bandhas), philosophy, smell & sound.
Week 1-1/7 EARTH TO SPACE / Prithvi: 1st Chakra - “Root to rise” – I AM, I AM SAFEThe earth flows focus on hips to toes to create greater health and vitality in the pelvic region, hips, legs, feet and toes and correspond with the Mūlādhāra cakra.
Week 2-1/14 WATER TO SPACE/Apas: “2nd Chakra – “Finding sacral life force” – I FEEL, I AM CREATIVE Water flow emphasizes wavelike spinal movements that increase strength, flexibility and energy in the spine as well as the chest, abdomen, shoulders, arms and hands.Water corresponds with the Svādhiṣṭhāna cakra.
Week 3-1/21 FIRE TO SPACE/ Agni: 3rd Chakra – “Be you own hero” – I DO, I AM STRONGDynamic and energizing flows create heat (agni) to dissolve impurities in body and mind. Agni, the inner fire, is cleansing, purifying and strengthening. The fire flows aim to redirect fears and frustration into achieving strength and power (along with peace and compassion.) Fire corresponds with the Maṇipūra cakra.
Week 4-1/28 AIR TO SPACE/ Vayu: 4th Chakra – “Trusting the loving heart” – I LOVE, I AM LOVEDIf fire is supported by wind, it grows into a joyful and compassionate energy, and is able to burn through doubt, confusion, negativity. The air element is directly linked to Anahata the heart, the chest, the lungs are where Prana Vayu primarily circulates. This practice aims to melt open space in and around your heart, physically, energetically and emotionally.
All 4 “King Element” classes will shift their focus to the 5th element “Awareness of Space “- Ether/Akasha in the end of class. Moving from the stability of earth, through the flow of water, the passion of fire, and lightness of air, we reach the element that makes everything else possible: ether or ‘space’. Ether is both nothing and everything at the same time. It’s stillness, yet it’s the very thing that makes all movement and life possible. To connect to the space element in our yoga practice, we try adding in more inversions/restorative inversions and stillness, a short meditation in the end of class.
