Join Rebecca Sisson, RYT500 for this two hour, all levels workshop to learn the basics of the Ashtanga Yoga system. Ashtanga Yoga is a traditional form of classical Indian yoga with a set sequence of postures that emphasize the union of breath and movement. Often referred to as the grandfather of the modern “vinyasa” yoga we practice here in the west, this practice is dynamic, energetic and flowing.
In this workshop we will discuss the history and lineage of Ashtanga Yoga, as well as the approach and philosophy, particularly around the rhythm and benefits of ritual. We’ll unpack the building blocks of the practice including pranayama (breath), bandhas (locks), drishti (point of gaze), mantra (chant) and asana (postures). This workshop includes an energetic practice of select poses from the primary series.
Rebecca’s approach to teaching Ashtanga Yoga is one of lightness and warmth to balance the rigor of tradition. This workshop is appropriate for all levels of practitioners; beginners welcome!
